There’s a rather surreal museum up in the town.
Here we have replicas of Fat Man and Little Boy – I’m sure you can work out which is which. They droppped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima respectively.
A nice lady took a picture of me next to Fat Man
Here’s Robert Oppenheimer looking like he’s off out for a night on the town.
He chose Los Alamos as a base because it was remote, hard to get into (only one way up the mountain), and had lots of nice nature and wildlife for him and his fellow scientists to relax in as they worked on The Manhattan Project.
I got a guided tour from this fine chap called Donald Cavness who was very enthusiastic and informative about the whole business.
He told me the FASCINATING NUCLEAR ARMAGEDDON FACT OF THE DAY.
Underneath this McDonalds a couple of blocks away is a secret underground chamber that was once home to the entire US Nuclear arsenal, and was also the first place used to check for the presence of neutrinos..
I checked the menu and they don’t serve Fillet O’ Fission.
PS- Bollocks – just realised I should have had “Enola Gay” by OMD playing as I drove up the mountain. Oh well.
I am housebound. Thank you for this blog, it is really making me feel like I there
